The school hopes Bevo’s replacement will be on the sidelines for the 2016 football season, including Thanksgiving, the 100th anniversary of the mascot’s first appearance at a Texas Football game.

The University of Texas announced Friday that its mascot BEVO XIV died in his sleep.
The National Grand Champion Show Steer had been a regular at Longhorns football games since 2004.
Longhorns typically live to be about 20 years old. The school said it is looking for a longhorn with “the same majestic qualities as previous longhorns that have worn the famous Bevo halter”. Mixed into the scenes of BEVO XIV chewing grass and clipping along was a festive set holiday playlist in the background. “People want to come over, ask questions and get photos”.
Brennes noticed something wrong with Bevo XIV on October 5 when he wasn’t eating normally and seemed excessively exhausted.
The 2,100-pound longhorn was diagnosed with the bovine leukemia virus earlier this month. And now according to Burnt Orange Nation, it’s been confirmed that BEVO XIV passed away in the presence of his caretakers at their own private ranch.

Bevo’s passing has impacted fans and alumni around the United States. He began his tenure as Texas’ mascot at age 2. “There’s something truly special about the service mascots give to their beloved universities”.
