During the 68th annual Emmy Awards on Sunday night, Beyoncé fans took to social media to vent their frustration after the pop diva came up winless.
A source tells PEOPLE the 35-year-old singer – who will be attending TV’s biggest awards – may wow the crowd with a surprise performance.
Grease: Live’s Thomas Kail & Alex Rudzinski took home the Emmy for best directing for a variety special, beating out Lemonade’s Beyonce and Kahlil Joseph.
“I wouldn’t want to be those guys when Kanye finds out they beat Beyoncé”, host Jimmy Kimmel joked.

Many fans of Beyonce did not find the upset amusing, with many venting their frustrations on Twitter.

But, as Gabe Ortíz pointed out, it’s never truly a loss when you wake up the next morning and you’re still Beyoncé. The fan outrage inspired thousands of tweets that had Grease: Live trending even after the telecast officially ended at 11 P.M. Eastern-and backstage, in the Emmys press room, Kail said something else that’s sure to get the Internet all aflutter. Because, you know, you’re still Beyonce.
