Towards the ending of the show, Rihanna preformed “Stay” and “Love on the Brain” some of her more soulful songs, and Rapper Drake presented her with her Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.

“The first time I met Robyn Fenty [Rihanna’s real name] was in 2005”, the 29-year-old said. “I like to sit on that side of the table”, she added.
It had been known for awhile that Rihanna would receive the Video Vanguard Award at this year’s VMAS.
Perhaps with Beyoncé performing a handful of songs from her latest album “Lemonade” – which sparked rumors of a potential fallout between Bey and Jay – the couple thought it best if he sat this one out. They had fantastic production value, top tier performances, HOSTS. He needed to take out entire billboards to show Rihanna how proud he was of her for earning the coveted award. MTV has been known to have one of the most outrageous, spontaneous and surprising award shows of all time, and without an official host this year, no one knew what to expect.
Sometimes you just can’t decide what to wear! “She’s someone I’ve been in love with since I was 22 years old”, he said.
Drake nearly fell flat on his face in front of Rihanna as he escorted the singer backstage at Madison Square Garden after getting caught up in the hem of her champagne-coloured dress. This isn’t a Beyonce concert, it’s the fucking MTV VMAs, don’t just give me a mini version of Beyonce’s fucking tour!
I’m turning 30 this year, and I felt like watching MTV fucking die like this, and become a shell of its former self, really made me realize that not only am I not a kid anymore, but MTV’s glory days are long past.

“I’m turned on by guys who are cultured”. “No one really knows how long they have been “official” – they just chose to let it become a thing instead of hiding it from everyone”.
