Beyoncé dedicates MTV VMA’s top award to ‘people of New Orleans’

With all the memorable performances during the VMAs, Beyoncé, Rihanna and Kanye West were the clear winners of the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards, with their collective presence breathing life into an epic, almost three-hour show that managed to feel both unplanned as well was scripted. She was presented with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award by Canadian rapper Drake – with whom she has often been romantically linked.

If you tuned into MTV’s Video Music Awards on last night, you probably heard Drake profess his love for Rihanna.

Then, Drake handed Rihanna her award and went in for a kiss.

“God bless you guys”, Beyonce told the gala at New York’s Madison Square Garden. It looked like she leaned back, and he planted his lips right on her cheek.

The pair then exchanged a sweet, if slightly awkward, kiss, leaving fans guessing again: Are they or aren’t they a couple?

During Sunday night’s headline-making performance, Spears worked her curves in a yellow unitard while dancing alongside G-Eazy.

“This is a night for us all to be thankful for what you have done for us!” reads the caption.

In an acceptance speech, Rihanna pledged never to forget her native Barbados.

Any artist would have a hard time trying to match a Beyonce performance of this magnitude, but the multifaceted R&B singer Rihanna proved she could hold her own over the course of four separate performances throughout the show. Drake, however, was intent on proving that he’s more than just an unrequited loverboy to his “Too Good” collaborator.

“We love the music, which can change styles from out in the album”. When I think about receiving this tonight, all I could think of was my country. Tory Lanez’s debut studio album “I Told You” lands at No. 4 with 52,000 units, while Lindsey Stirling’s new album “Brave Enough” launches at No. 5 with 49,000 units. But while the LeBron of Pop’s performance justified the channel’s blind faith in her healing abilities and single-handedly carried the evening, it also served to emphasize just how static the rest of the performances were in comparison.

Despite the somewhat lackluster response to Britney’s VMAs comeback, the singer appeared happy with her performance. Drake said, quote, “She’s one of my best friends in the world. She’s a living, breathing legend in our industry”, end quote.
