Beyonce brings police shooting victims’ mothers to MTV VMA’s

In an otherwise uneventful MTV Video Music Awards – unless you count Kanye’s freakish cat-face video ending – Beyond stole the stage for a solid 10 minutes on Sunday (Aug. 28) in what was essentially just a Queen Bey concert. She even covered her collaborator G-Eazy’s hit song, “Me, Myself and I”.

The 4-year-old joined mom Beyoncé for a show-stopping appearance before Sunday night’s awards show, with both wearing sparkling, ethereal metallic gowns. She started her set surrounded by dancers dressed as angels that were then shot down.

The 2016 Video Music Awards could have easily been renamed “Lemonade 2.0” this year, as Beyoncé swept the categories with her stunning visual album. Out of a cloud of smoke she emerged for her much-anticipated performance in a Ralph & Russo wide-brim white hat and white silk organza cape with flower cut-out shoulder embellishment, which topped layers of chiffon. Although Beyonce went on to thank Jay Z during her acceptance speech, she seemed to ignore the elephant (not) in the room. She also turned heads on the red carpet, where she posed for pics with her daughter Blue Ivy and the mothers of Oscar Grant, Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner and Mike Brown.

Lucky for us, the whole adorable encounter was caught on camera. (Has there ever been a better, more succinct line than “boy, bye”?) Not one to merely achieve when she could show everyone in the house how it’s done, Beyoncé broke into “Don’t Hurt Yourself”, and “Formation”. The two were making their way out of the Hands of Stone premiere at the SVA theater in NY when things got a bit heated.
