Beyonce drops new album ‘Lemonade’

Lemonade’s release emerged four days before Beyonce kicks off her Formation World Tour in Miami, Florida on Wednesday (27Apr16). The number promoted the #BlackLivesMatter movement, condemned police violence, and drew a backlash from police – so it’s not surprising that the rest of “Lemonade” narrows in on the same issues.

Among the women holding photos of young men were the mothers of shot victims Trayvon Martin and Mike Brown. Songs about infidelity, heartbreak and racial tension are interspersed with voice overs, including Beyonce reading the work of Somali-British poet Warsan Shire. In the span of an hour, she simultaneously lit her husband Jay-Z’s dirty laundry on fire, reconciled her embedded insecurities from her father, and created a black female power anthem, leaving the collective Beyhive’s jaws on the floor.

Any truth to the divorce rumors?

The album will continue to stream exclusively on Tidal, and will not be released to Apple Music or other streaming services.

The couple had earlier opened up on the painful experience of the child they had lost, with Beyonce driving home the fact with her song, “Sorry”, off the “Lemonade” album. “If you try this s-t again you’re gonna lose your wife”.

“Hold Up” includes the lyric, “What’s worse, looking jealous or insane?”

The lyrics in Redemption also seem to suggest that despite any marital strife they may have encountered in the past, they’re still very much in love.

Some questioned whether this was her announcing her separation from Jay-Z. Besides the explicit language, it doesn’t fit into neat categories and boxes, ranging from R&B to a bit of reggae to rock and even a country twang.
