Beyonce invites mothers of slain black men to MTV awards
As well as taking home eight of the 10 awards she was nominated for on the night (she only missed out on Best Collaboration and Best Art Direction, with the latter going to the late David Bowie for his stunning “Lazarus” video), she also got up to perform during the ceremony.

Singer Beyonce, with daughter Blue Ivy, arrive at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards in NY. The queen gave us a mini concert when she set the stage on fire with most of her chart-topping album! Watch part of “Pray You Catch Me” below! She went in with 11 nominations for visual album Lemonade and came out with seven wins Sunday night, with one still undecided as of time publication – including video of the year and best female video. It was a slow start with her first hit, then she rolled right into “Hold Up” and things got insane really fast! She tossed on a white fur coat that was spotted black with red details, licked her lips into the camera, and rocked out with “Don’t Hurt Yourself”.
“First of all, I’d like to thank my attractive daughter and my incredible husband for all of their support”, she said as she accepted the statue, also thanking director Melina Matsoukas “for directing such an incredible video and pushing me”.

To Beyonce’s credit, her response was swift. But ever the surprise, she changed outfits (while still on stage!) and broke into “Hold Up”.
