Beyonce just owned the MTV VMAs red carpet with Blue Ivy

When Beyoncé came to MTV’s Video Music Awards on Sunday night, she came to slay.

Beyonce won best female video for “Hold Up” and “Formation” took the night’s top prize, video of the year, along with awards for choreography, cinematography, direction and editing.

She opened up with “Pray You Catch Me“, a somber, eerie opening that included women next to her dropping dead and a boy in a hoodie – an echo of Trayvon Martin – wrapping his arms around her. The holy imagery lingered in the audience as dancers dropped to the ground one by one-turning red, fainting as if just shot-with Beyoncé approaching front and center.

Flanked by the mothers of four men killed in US, Beyonce made her stand on the issue of racial hate loud and clear.

Meanwhile, Beyoncé may have had a lot to deal with before the ceremony but she appeared very cool and collected ahead of her intense 16-minute performance at the event.

She trekked across the entire stage on “Sorry” and danced in a ring of fire during “Don’t Hurt Yourself”, and the heat continued with “Formation“.

The superstar brought the audience to its feet with a show-stopping selection of songs from “Lemonade”. That’s the hard-kicking rock jam that features Jack White. It was an uninterrupted master class sandwiched into the telecast.
