Like Bowie, Prince leaves behind a few celluloid impressions, including 1984’s Purple Rain, showing Saturday, April 30 at the Eureka Theater at 7:30 p.m. Maddalena expects the jacket to fetch much more than the asking price, which sits between $6,000 and $8,000. “This is the first time ever for something like this, and it might be the only time”.

The jacket was given to a make-up artist for Prince and Apollonia Kotero, a singer who starred as the pop star’s girlfriend in the 1984 film Purple Rain, and the make-up artist’s sister is the consignor for the sale, said Jeff Hare, a spokesman for Profiles in History.
“Prince memorabilia in general, it just really doesn’t exist”, Maddalena continued on the topic of the exclusivity of the item in the auction.
That auction will also feature Michael Jackson’s sequined “Billie Jean” jacket that he wore during the HIStory tour of 1996, and his right-handed glove, studded with Swarovski crystals, from the Dangerous World Tour of 1992.
Inspired by Prince’s early life, Purple Rain revolves around a talented, headstrong young artist dubbed The Kid who struggles with a hard home life, musical rivals, a budding romance and balancing his band on the road to fame. The movie won Prince an Oscar for best soundtrack.
