Beyond the Playbook: Bills look to bounce back against the Jets

The NFL experimented with a live-streaming event on Yahoo last October with the Buffalo Bills vs. Jacksonville Jaguars game in London. The Jets-Bills would figure to be a low-scoring affair even on Sunday – so the Thursday Night Football week 2 matchup between the AFC (and New York State) rivals figures to be a snooze, if offense is what you like. The Jets buried memories of last season’s 0-2 showing against the Bills and ex-Jets coach Rex Ryan, including the Week 17 loss in Buffalo that kept them out of the playoffs. Forte also caught two passes for nine yards.

“There’s a lot of circumstances that go into it”, Ryan said earlier this week. Then we go down to the locker room and he’s walking across the hall to the x-ray room, and reports circulate that he could miss the Jets game, and perhaps a few more.

The Bills rallied to score 17 consecutive points in a run capped by safety Nickell Robey-Coleman returning Jalin Marshall’s fumble 36 yards for a touchdown.

The Jets got the ball back and Forte scored his third touchdown five plays later.

NY also avoided its first 0-2 since 2007.

What’s troubling is the Bills’ schedule doesn’t get much easier. LeSean McCoy, who’s run for 1,000 yards four times in his career, will test the Jets all game long. Fitzpatrick had a huge window to throw into because Chan Gailey went against the grain on first and goal from the 5.

Marshall was hurt while making a 15-yard catch on a slant route deep in Buffalo territory. Gilmore yanked Marshall down by his facemask at the Bills’ 8-yard line.

He missed only four plays spanning two series after having his knee examined. He finished with six catches for 101 yards while Decker had six receptions for 126 yards while extending his streak of consecutive games with a touchdown to six.

That’s similar to what NFL CIO Michelle McKenna-Doyle said in April, noting how fans are already using Twitter while they watch games. “It didn’t look good“.

The Bills didn’t look good in the opener, and they will be without receiver Sammy Watkins. “But when he stepped back in the huddle later on it was such a surprise, but it was a relief as well”. In Baltimore, Watkins played all but seven snaps, but in order to preserve him best for the rest of the season, it might be smarter to try and give him less – especially considering the extended break after the game is over. Opposing offenses could be looking at Revis Island as a pretty attractive destination this season.
