Bharti Airtel acquired YTS Solutions for mobile payment solutions

Mobile Data revenues contribute to 19.2 per cent of Mobile India revenues vis-à-vis 12.4 per cent in the corresponding quarter previous year.

Telecom firm Bharti Airtel on Tuesday reported Rs 1,554.3 crore in net profit for the quarter ending June 2015 against Rs 1,108 crore in the corresponding quarter of previous fiscal.

The profit was aided by a net benefit after tax of Rs 458 crore, mainly related to the hiving off of tower assets in four African countries for about $1.3 billion.

Total revenue of the company for the first quater rose 2.9% to Rs 23,680.8 crore compared to Rs 22,962 crore reported in the corresponding period.

With Airtel’s large customer base, nationwide presence and existing infrastructure, we believe there are synergies which will strengthen the entity’s position in the mobile payments industry, she further added. Mobile Data revenue at Rs 2,609 crore registered a growth of 67.3% Y-o-Y in India, uplifted by increase in the Data customer base by 25.8% and traffic by 83.4%.

“The gross sale proceeds of the tower disposals during the quarter are Dollars 1,340 million, of which USD 243 million has been received on or before June 30, 2015”.

Bharti Airtel, headed by Indian billionaire Sunil Mittal, said mobile data traffic grew 86.5 per cent in the quarter.

Once appointed, Manish will be a part of the Airtel Management Board and will report to Gopal Vittal, managing director and CEO of Bharti Airtel (India and South Asia). “Our capex programme is mostly directed at increasing 3G/4G coverage and improving all-round customer experience”.

Profit was estimated at Rs 1,327 crore on revenue of Rs 23,307 crore for the quarter, according to average of estimates of analysts polled by CNBC-TV18. “The remaining Dollars 1,097 million…has been netted off in the computation of Net Debt”, Bharti Airtel said in a statement. Minutes grew by 16 percent, while data volumes have more than doubled.
