Clinton has defended her family’s philanthropic organizations against accusations by Donald Trump, her Republican rival, and others that wealthy donors, overseas and at home, might expect favorable treatment from the USA government.

Always the master orator, Bill Clinton contrasted his measured, positive remarks to his introductory speakers-including state Rep. Ed Gainey, U.S. Rep. Mike Doyle and Allegheny County Councilman Dewitt Walton-and to the emotionally charged rhetoric heard nationally.

“It’s about time I showed up and did it for her”, he said.

The inquiry followed reports by The Washington Post regarding Trump’s Foundation and his contributions to the charity. Along with Bill Clinton and Chelsea, three other board members appointed by the Clinton Foundation who are also longtime friends and advisers to the Clinton family will step down from the board: Bruce Lindsey, Ira Magaziner and Maggie Williams. The board would draft a “succession plan” by the end of the year, the announcement said.

Bill Clinton set up the foundation as he prepared to leave the White House in 2001.

CBS News issued the following statement to TheWrap about the apparent edit: “The clip in question from former President Clinton’s interview with Charlie Rose ran in its entirety on “CBS This Morning, CBSNews.com and on CBSN, CBS News’ 24/7 digital streaming news service”.

Bill Clinton announced last month that if his wife was elected president, the foundation would no longer accept foreign and corporate donations, he would step down from its board and he no longer would raise money for the organization.

What Clinton said next has been partially edited out of CBS News transcripts and subsequent interview replays, according to The Hill.
