“Let’s talk about trust”, Kaine said in his Wednesday night speech at the Democratic convention. “She’s ready to win, and she’s ready to lead”.
Much Like Indiana Governor Mike Pence before his address at the RNC in Cleveland, Kaine heads into his speech unknown to most of the country. “Once they made sure no one is listening, republicans say how fantastic a senator Hillary Clinton was”, he said, referring to his Republican colleagues in Washington.
He used that opportunity to compare Clinton with Republican nominee Donald Trump, a man, he says, who truly only cares about himself.
Kaine, a former Virginia governor, was introduced by Clinton last weekend in Miami, where he switched easily between English and Spanish and spoke of his time as a Catholic missionary in Honduras, his work as a civil rights attorney and an education-focused governor who managed a state through tough times. “To me it seems like our nation it’s just too great to put in the hands of a slick-talking, empty-promising, self-promoting, one-man wrecking crew…”
“But don’t take it from me”.
“We’ve got a lot at stake, but I know you, I know your passion, I know your commitment to democracy”, Kaine told the Iowans.
“You should elect her because she’ll never quit when the going gets tough. We’re all neighbors and we must love our neighbors as ourselves….”

Stressing that he and Clinton are “companeros del alma”, or soul mates, when it comes to their values, Kaine said they both believe in doing all the good they can and the idea of serving one another – something Democrats and others share. “Serve one another”, said Kaine.
