Biden associates resume discussion about presidential run

The New York Times says Biden and his associates are “actively” exploring a presidential campaign.

One longtime Biden supporter said the vice president had been deeply moved by his sons desire for him to run.

Biden has twice before run for president, in 1988 and 2008. That is what our next guest is hoping for, anyway.

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest, in an interview with Fox News, acknowledged that Biden has “indicated that he’s thinking about it”. And you’re very right.

“We’ll see what happens”. It’s nothing concrete though. The vice president has spent nearly every weekend since May in Wilmington, Del., particularly focused on his grandchildren. The younger Biden’s death prompted an outpouring of support for the vice president, who also lost a daughter and his first wife in a vehicle accident in 1972. Every day he took the Amtrak back and forth to Wilmington so he could be with Beau and Hunter.

Having Mr. Biden as an opponent could help Mrs. Clinton’s campaign in its efforts to shed the perception of inevitability that hurt her with Iowa caucusgoers in the 2008 contest. Her campaign has a well-established ground game. He may be more trusted than her, reported by the polls, as Tim Montgomerie suggests in the London Times today.

Joe Biden speaks in Denver in July. In a possibly foreshadowing sign, he autographed the restaurant wall right above Hillary Clinton at Rosalie’s Cucina in Skaneateles, NY. However, Clinton’s favorability ratings have been sliding in recent weeks.

Republicans who might long for fewer than 17 declared candidates probably look at the Democrats’ race with just a little envy. Many of his personal friends and acquaintances are urging him to run as well.

“There will always be room for the sitting Vice President if he chose to run for President”.

“The president ultimately wants Democratic voters to decide who they believe the nominee should be”, Earnest said, when asked what Obama would like to see. “You probably know the rest”.

As Beau’s condition became increasingly grave, any significant preparatory work was left to his closest aides.

Joe Biden has never ruled out making a third try for the presidency, and as his self-declared, end-of-summer deadline to make a decision approaches, there are fresh signals that pressure is growing on him to do so.

PIERCE: I think it is emotionally feasible.

Talks of Biden’s potential bid have been lingering for months. And I think that’s true. We have no illusions.

“Finally Biden may jump in as Hillary slips nearly daily”, the News Corporation founder and executive chairman tweeted.
