Biden meets Poroshenko in Kiev, reassures support
Biden arrived in the Ukrainian capital late on December 6. The next day, he will give a speech before the Ukrainian Parliament. “Ukraine is on the cusp – what happens in the next year is likely to determine the fate of the country for generations”, Biden told a joint briefing with President Petro Poroshenko following bilateral talks. However, according to opinion polls, 68 percent simply disagree with the specific reform path we are on, and close to 70 percent consider the fight against corruption to be the top priority.

Special attention will be paid to the judicial sector.
Killings, torture and lawlessness still prevail in the disputed region, the report by the office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights said.
America is urging Ukraine to cut what it describes as the “cancer of corruption”.
Biden said Monday that the new aid will help the country implement reforms and fight corruption.
“Ukraine has 1,833 state corporations that are a persistent source of corruption”, said Anders Aslund of the US-based Atlantic Council. “To stay in a now staggered prime minister’s chair, the PM announced an entertaining show under the promising title “reports by ministers on structural reforms”, after which members of the government started imitatiting reformation efforts”, – said Medvedchuk. Nevertheless, the implementation of most reform plans has still not begun.
This means putting an end to Ukraine’s endemic corruption.
“Joe Biden’s visit has already influenced the Ukrainian government, for we have seen steps taken to meet the wishes of our Western partners in recent days”.
Ukraine has also sought to bolster its finances through restructuring its external debt.
The UN also noted Ukraine’s failure to prosecute those responsible for deadly violence during its 2013-2014 anti-government uprising and in Odessa in May 2014, and reported claims of growing repression in Crimea since its annexation by Russian Federation.
US Vice President Joe Biden has assured Ukrainian lawmakers that the United States will only step up pressure on Moscow if “Russian aggression” continues.
Ukraine’s army requires serious investment, specialised military experience and modernisation assistance.
“But in addition, you also have a battle”.
Joseph Biden stayed in Ukraine for only 36 hours instead of the planned two full days.

United Nations human rights investigators documented cases of “enforced disappearance, arbitrary and incommunicado detention as well as torture and ill treatment of people suspected of trespassing against territorial integrity or terrorism or believed to be supporters of the self-proclaimed “Donetsk people’s republic” and “Luhansk people’s republic”.
