Bieber, who performed his “What Do You Mean?” hit to roaring cheers, was the biggest victor of the night, taking Best Male, Best Look, Worldwide Act: North America, Biggest Fans and Best collaboration for “Where Are U Now?” with Skrillex and Diplo.

“Wow. Thank you”, Justin began amid screams, while collecting his award for Best Male. “I just tore my calf muscle five times, no big deal”.

The “Love Me Like You Do” singer was among the sea of celebrities and singers who attended the popular awards show in Milan.

We love Nicki Minaj’s carefree demeanor, and okay, she wins a lot of awards, but her pre-taped acceptance speech for winning Best Hip-Hop was perhaps the most pre-taped acceptance speech of all pre-taped acceptance speeches: “I wish I was in Milan eating a few delicious…[long pause]… spaghetti”.

The TV presenter joined the likes of Judge Geordie’s Vicky Pattison, singer Ellie Goulding and host, Ed Sheeran at the star studded event in Italy and was one of the few celebs that didn’t put her bust on full display!

Despite being nominated for a record-breaking nine awards, the Bad blood singer only won for the Best Song category for her Kendrick Lamar-assisted song.

Still, for nominations, a few selections were dated or off-kilter: Rihanna for “Best Female”, Lana Del Rey for “Best Alternative”, and Coldplay for “Best Rock”.

Duran Duran received the first MTV video visionary award.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, who kick-started the show with their song Downtown, took home the best video award.

“Music lovers around the world, when we started, there was us and MTV, and we blazed a trail and we were there for each other”, Simon Le Bon told the crowd.

MTV “Awkward” star Jillian Rose Reed wore a black H&M romper paired with H&M booties and jewelry by AV Max, Marcia Moran and Nissa.

Pharrell Williams closed out the ceremony with a rousing rendition of his anthem “Freedom” with dancers in brightly colored swing skirts.
