Big 12 gets tougher than NCAA on full-contact practice limit

We competed every day and I honestly think that made me a better quarterback. “But I think all of us, we like keeping our jobs, and we want to keep our kids healthy”. It wasn’t so much a change of culture. In just three practices may contact exceed half of practice. “What we determined was our guys weren’t using them anyway”, said Bowlsby. Bowlsby said the new policy had the approval of the conference’s coaches, and in many cases, programs were now conducting just two contact practices per week. “Just on Tuesday. That’s the only day we’re in full pads besides the game. We need to play better”. I am not a fan of this one, because this slogan will stick around until we get a championship game at which point every game doesn’t count because teams could conceivably play in the regular season and the championship game which sort of renders their first meeting worthless. “We’ve been doing them the same way for a long time”. If the Big 12 is going to continue moving forward without a conference championship game, then the importance of winning more key regular season games is pivotal than ever. McFarland, who earned defensive MVP in TCU’s 42-3 win over Ole Miss in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, returns after leading the team with seven sacks in 2014. In light of that victory, TCU finished No. 3 in the final AP and Coaches’ poll. Last July, he and the Horned Frogs had nothing remarkable to show for two years in the Big 12. In 2013, TCU was 4-8. People care more about Arkansas football in that area since Memphis is right on the state line.

While it doesn’t seem that Big 12 expansion is imminent, it was still a topic of discussion at the Big 12’s Media Days.

“This is pretty cool”, Boykin said. “My expectations for myself have not changed”. Boykin talked to reporters for nearly 90 minutes, continuing an off-season of activity that included picking up or being a finalist for a bevy of quarterback awards. I’m not a big believer that you have to have a conference championship.

Kansas State’s Bill Snyder followed Holgorsen and was the polar opposite of his peer. I favor two divisions. And while it may not have achieved the recent success of a BYU, Cincinnati, or even UCF, this is an up-and-coming program with a lot of buzz. Sometimes it can impact attendance. But Bowlsby noted that with the exception of the Big 10, the Big 12 still comes up for renewal before the other Power Five conferences.

The conference will again play a round-robin season schedule with its 10 participants. Last month, Oklahoma president David Boren caused a stir when he advocated for adding new schools and said the league was “psychologically disadvantaged”.

Any decision to add schools rests with the conference’s presidents and chancellors.

“At the present time, I don’t think there’s critical mass for expansion”, Bowlsby said at Big 12 media days.
