Big 12 roundtable: Projecting the rest of the conference
Don’t expect Texas Tech head coach to fire off any post-game shots at the other team’s head coach this week as he did after beating Arkansas in week 3 of the season.

Crediting the 20 seniors on the roster, Holgorsen said his team understands that there is still a lot left on the table for West Virginia moving forward beginning this weekend against a Texas Tech team that features one of the most explosive offenses in a league full of them. It’s easy to project WVU to an 8-4 season, which would be quite solid in Morgantown.
One of the focuses of the Texas Tech offense is senior wide receiver Jakeem Grant, who was a thorn in the side of the Mountaineers a season ago. Holgorsen spent one season at Oklahoma State as the offensive coordinator before being hired to be the West Virginia head coach in 2010. The Red Raiders have forced 10 sacks and have allowed 13 this season. The Red Raiders are in seventh place in the Big 12 at 2-4 and the Mountaineers are tied for eighth at 0-4 with Kansas State. “They are not going to suit me up to go out there and play”. The Mountaineers may look to run the ball close to 50 times against Texas Tech on Saturday considering the results from last season. With their win on Wednesday, Texas Tech secured their first win against a team seeded five or above. Senior back DeAndre Washington, 5-8, 198, is the nation’s No. 29 rusher, averaging 103.6 yards.
RED RAIDERS IN THE RPI A combination of the most challenging schedule ever played by a Texas Tech squad as well as a strong record against that squad has placed Texas Tech as the No. 33 team in the latest RPI released on October 26th.
Texas Tech is coached by Kliff Kingsbury.
It was a clip that spread rapidly across the Internet, amusing many but angering others such as former West Virginia great Pat White, who voiced his displeasure on Twitter. Baylor, TCU, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, West Virginia and Texas Tech will earn bowl appearances with at least six wins. The Mountaineers have allowed 2 defensive touchdowns, and has a kickoff return for a touchdown.
-The Mountaineers are No. 14 all-time in college football winning percentage. Now the West Virginia offense ranks No. 30 in total offense, No. 27 in rushing offense, No. 43 in passing offense. “[We need to] give ourselves an opportunity to get a goal on the board and look to finish the game off a little bit better than we did against Brown”. My guess is that the victor of Saturday’s between the Red Raiders and Mountaineers will have the inside track to the fifth spot. However, a better way West Virginia could keep the score lower would be using its ground attack on offense. That much is obvious as quarterback Patrick Mahomes is first in the nation with 3,331 passing yards, completing 260 of 402 passes, with 25 touchdowns.
“You lose your first team All-American and best player, that hurts”, Gibson said.
There have been too many drives for the Mountaineer offense where they go three and out after the defense has given up a score. Last time I checked that’s not going to win you very many football games at this level.
Following a three-set loss to TCU last week, Texas has reeled off two consecutive victories heading into a matchup with the eighth-ranked Kansas Jayhawks. Both should have plenty of opportunities to gain yards on the ground this week against Tech.
“(Texas Tech) is going to be a challenge, and the remaining four games after that are going to be a challenge”, Holgorsen said. West Virginia played nearly flawlessly through the first three games of the season but mistakes and breakdowns have become the norm since the schedule flipped to Big 12 Conference play.

“It’s probably the most respect that you can give someone in that time and moment, ” Boykin said. Field position could prove critical in this match up as well and special teams often decide how that will play out over the course of the game.
