Big 12 says ISU handled court storming properly after Iowa game

Stopping college basketball fans from storming the court has been widely debated by analysts and NCAA officials over the past few seasons, but the problem is how hard it is to prevent thousands of crazed people bum-rushing their way onto the arena floor. The game started off very even with both teams playing at lightning pace and neither were able to hit their shots resulting in some pretty sloppy play. Uthoff shot the lights out in that first half, putting up 30 points and leading Iowa to a 49-35 halftime lead. Jarrod Uthoff, who had scored a career-high 27 points in a win over Western Illinois on Monday, scored 30 of his 32 points in the first half for Iowa (7-3), which has lost seven straight in Ames. No one in that huddle was willing to yell at his teammates to wake them up. One of the keys to their success was shutting down Uthoff this time around.

The Cyclones finally figured out how to slow Uthoff down in the second half, and a blistering late run got them within a point. Their struggles aren’t a result of being unable to get talent to campus; they have players. By halftime, the Cyclones had committed a grisly 12 turnovers. Monte Morris’ jumper with 10 seconds remaining gave Iowa State the lead in what would ultimately be the game-deciding basket.

According to the newspaper, the Big 12 Conference passed a measure earlier this year that permits the commissioner to impose fines or remove home games from schools that don’t stop fans from storming courts or fields postgame.

Students are storming the court at Hilton Coliseum! They do have a nice looking win over Florida Stae in the ACC-B10 challenge, but a road win against a top-5 opponent would have done wonders to their resume. It was a satisfying win not only because it was against a huge rival, but because the Cyclones overcame huge odds after an Iowa-dominated first half.
