Big 12 will talk to 17 schools about expansion
Despite its name, the Big 12 has just 10 members.

Chuck Carlton of the Dallas Morning News reported each team’s presentation will be lengthy, and at this time, the conference is expected to make a decision between mid-September and early October. And a day later he meets with the league’s board of directors.
According to ESPN.com’s Brett McMurphy, the conference is set to have conversations with 17 schools about possibly joining the Big 12. That would leave two scenarios: The Big 12 would add two schools, forming a 12-member conference composed of two six-school divisions, or merely opt to stay at 10 members and, as the conference already has announced, add a football championship game starting after the 2017 season.
Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby will conduct the video conferences with the prospective members with an eye toward making a decision on expansion this fall.
Among the schools that will participate in the video conference include Cincinnati, Houston, BYU, South Florida, Central Florida, Connecticut, Memphis, Colorado State, Boise State, Tulane, Temple, East Carolina, SMU and New Mexico. The Big 12’s television contracts call for more money towards the conference if it expands.
