Big 12 won’t punish Iowa St for students rushing court

Hilton Magic was in full swing yet again for No. 4 Iowa State, as the Cyclones erased a 20-point deficit in the second half to beat the Iowa Hawkeyes on Thursday 83-82 in Ames.

However, all the fun typically goes out the window the moment someone-who’s simply in the area doing their job, no less-reportedly suffers a compound fracture in their leg. There’s a unsafe side to storming the court and now Iowa State may have to deal with the very real possibility that Peterson takes some sort of legal action.

“It appeared to be a significant leg break”, Iowa State athletic director Jamie Pollard told the Register.

Peterson took the incident in stride, tweeting “ouch.” while being transported to a hospital 35 miles south of Ames.

The conference statement says they are sorry to hear about the injury – wish Peterson a speedy recovery – and will have no further comment. “That’s awful. But, my thing, I was trying to go see my wife, to be honest with you”.

The comeback started with Iowa State taking much better care of the basketball. For every pundit that wants to create their own version of the Unwritten Rules for Court Storming, there are those that want to let college kids celebrate great victories uninhibited. That’s part of college athletics. There’s only probably 10 schools that do that in the country.

The Cyclones were as sloppy with the ball as they have been all season in the first half, committing 10 turnovers in the first 16 minutes. “I think this one stole the show for my career right now”. Alas, it was not to be and the shot clanged out, triggering a court-storming by the Iowa State fans in a state of bewilderment.
