Big 3 battle for $10 million at Tour Championship
“Luckily, that amount of money doesn’t sort of mean much to me anymore“, said McIlroy on the eve of the season-ending Tour Championship in Atlanta that caps the FedExCup playoffs and awards the bonus to the points leader.

According to oddsmakers from GTBets, Jason Day is the favorite to win this tournament, as he has 3/1 odds. What happens then when the Player of the Year ballots are handed out?
Many in the golf world – including 2014 Player of the Year Rory McIlroy as well as the hottest golfer on the planet himself – have conceded the PGA Tour best player honors to Jordan Spieth. It’s been that kind of season, one dominated by the 22-year-old Spieth but not totally dominated. There are also ways for these five players to win the cup without coming in first. “Two majors. It trumps all else”.
The US PGA Championship victor and 27-year-old said his rise to the top of the rankings was barely a concern.
“Jason Day decided that that course was easy”. Henrik Stenson had a powerful season in 2013, but it was his two playoff wins, along with one in Europe, that propelled him to both the FedEx Cup and the Race to Dubai titles. The top 25 on that list after the Web.com Tour Championship next week at the TPC Sawgrass Dye’s Valley earn their PGA Tour cards. “I don’t know when it stopped”. They have won five of the last six majors.
But the battle for No. 1 wasn’t the only drama hanging over the tournament.
He won those two majors, you know, like, five and three months ago, and our collective attention spans can’t feel the significance of those accomplishments. He explained how he had won some prize money for the first time and when he checked his account balance, realized he could afford the watch.
That is a tremendous season, and under most circumstances, it’s deserving of Player of the Year honors.
But that was the last great moment for Spieth. The man who finishes with the most Fed-Ex Cup points on Sunday wins another $10 million. And while Day is not far behind, Spieth still has the lead in the Vardon Trophy for the lowest adjusted scoring average.
Spieth dominated the important part of the year. I’m willing to bet he would.
“I am just trying to get to my eighth (career) win now”, he said. They’re playing for majors.
Rory McIlroy has a decent chance of being £7.5million richer come Sunday night but he provoked open-mouthed astonishment on Wednesday when he said it wouldn’t mean much to him.
It’s more than that, however.
Jason Day, of Australia, smiles as he heads to the first hole…

That sounds all well and good, but can he really do it? Given his success since the PGA Championship, no one doubts Day.
