To make room on the 40-man roster for Lucroy and Jeffress, the team has designated catcher Bobby Wilson for assignment.
The 21-year-old Green owns a 2-2 record and 4.98 ERA in seven starts with short-season Single-A Spokane. He joins a bullpen that has a high ERA at 4.54, but has a formidable group in recently acquired Dario Alvarez, last years deadline steal in Sam Dyson, another “other guy” in Jake Diekman, reclamation project of Matt Bush, and Japanese “import” of Tony Barnette.
The Astros were 10 games behind Texas on July 29, but the deficit is now 5 1/2 games.
