Big Manning to Cruz completion sets up Giants win over Saints

Eli and the New York Giants have a match-up against the New Orleans Saints.

When the New York Giants and New Orleans Saints met last season in Week 8 it was an offensive explosion.

Brees didn’t throw any interceptions and the Saints didn’t turn the ball over. I picked the Saints to go 8-8 this year.

If those numbers don’t impress the Giants, all they have to do is recall previous year: Brees passed for 511 yards and tied an National Football League record with seven touchdown passes in a 52-49 win.

But even without Williams, the Saints defense held their own.

“It always comes down to a few plays, but literally if we make one more play in each of those games, then we’re potentially sitting here at 2-0”, Brees said. The Giants won the defensive struggle 16-13. They were 3 of 13 on third down and that was a major factor in the game.

The game was also redemption for the Giants’ defense.

Sean Payton talked all summer about the importance of New Orleans’ young team developing a winning mentality after so many years of mediocrity. They gained 614 net yards. Brees has been adamant about wanting to continue playing, and at a high level, into his 40s. “It was a great job by the defense”. I’m happy, and it’s going to get better, ” Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul said. We’re trying to get three points, ended up giving up seven. But Danny Woodhead should get a lot of additional work in the passing game and Antonio Gates can bounce back from a quiet opener as the Bolts host the Jaguars this week. The vibe is totally different. The Black and Gold forced three turnovers in the second quarter, but failed to capitalize off any of them. New York’s TD came on Jenkins’ return of a blocked field goal.

As you know, 0-2 teams do not make the playoffs in the NFL. No Tennessee wideout went past 40 yards receiving, and the game-winning touchdown went to the carbon-dated Andre Johnson (shortly after I gave him some Twitter shade). “That’s pretty devastating when you look at the way the game unfolded”. For a second time, the Giants had the Saints outnumbered and had a blitzer come clean.

The New York Giants defeated the Dallas Cowboys, 20-19 last week in which Eli Manning threw for 207 yards and three touchdowns in 19-for-28 passes. Coincidentally, Gene Steratore was also the referee in that game. The Saints had 103 on 26 carries last season.

The front four did not have a sack, but the team had two on the afternoon (Leon Hall, Landon Collins).

Giants coach Ben McAdoo rolled the dice early. Beckham let a sure touchdown slip through his hands in the fourth quarter. It appeared that it was a bad neck injury, but we got an official word that the former Florida State cornerback was being treated for a concussion and was moving his fingers and toes. “I just scooped and scored”. “We can match up all the way around the board with anybody as long as we play within the system and play within the scheme”.

With an 80 percent chance of rain forecast for East Rutherford on Sunday, Ingram is expecting the ground game to play a larger role than it did in last year’s Saints-Giants game.
