Big News, Bitches! Mac Is Directing The “Minecraft” Movie
Pictures and Mojang have found a new director for their upcoming Minecraft movie!

The game’s publishing comp Mojang announced the decision this morning, confirming the reasoning behind McElhenney’s presence at the recent MineCon convention in London.
“Hey Mojang, let’s do something unusual and wonderful”.
The challenge of directing a box of digital Legos into a film that will keep butts in seats for 90 minutes now falls to McElhenny, who’s best known to the world for creating, and playing Mac on, the FX series It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. The game allows players to create avatars and build virtual worlds.
Though this choice comes as a pretty big surprise to most fans, given his track record, Rob McElhenney probably worked hard to get the job.
The Minecraft movie will also see Roy Lee (The Lego Movie) step in as producer and Warner Bros. executive Jon Berg will oversee the live-action project.

McElhenney has directed three episodes of Always Sunny, as well as the pilot for Bill Burr’s upcoming FX show Pariah. Aside from his work on It’s Always Sunny, he has very little experience directing and Minecraft is expected to be a relatively high budget studio film. Now, McElhenney replaces previous Minecraft director Shawn Levy, who walked away from the project in December due to creative differences. This will be his first dig at helming a major feature film.
