Big plays burn Patriots defense in Miami
Tom Brady threw for just 134 yards and zero touchdowns as the Patriots fell, 20-10, failing to clinch the top seed in the AFC playoffs in the process. He was removed from the game for New England’s final drive.

“Pretty sore”, Brady said.
But with Jones already downgraded to out for Sunday’s game and Ninkovich still in Foxboro and officially questionable to play, Sheard will be the starter on one side and Grissom and Akiem Hicks may split some time on the outside as the Patriots will possibly go at times with a big look on some downs. The Patriots come in having lost 3 of their last 5 while the Dolphins are 2 and 7 of their last 9 games. By any measurement, New England (12-3) is miles ahead of Miami (5-10). Tom Brady completed 22 of 31 passes for 231 yards and one touchdown against one interception. The signal-caller hobbled off the field in the second quarter after taking an ugly hit from Dolphins defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, who went low after a facemask sent him tumbling to the ground. Before the game, Brady posed for photos alongside Pro Football Hall of Famers Dan Marino and Bob Griese. A win Sunday would have clinched the No. 1 seed in the AFC seed for the Patriots, who now need a San Diego win over Denver later Sunday to get the No. 1 berth.
“Nothing over the last six weeks is going to matter”, Brady said. “We’re just not doing a very good job of it, so I think that’s what it comes down to”. That means you’re going to turn over a high percentage of the roster because the players that the other coach had don’t fit the new philosophy, so a lot of the players are going to have to change in part because of the philosophy and probably in part because of the scheme.
“We’re not doing enough on offense to be productive”.
Tannehill hooked up with Greg Jennings for 31 yards on the next drive, and then got the Dolphins into the end zone with a 15-yard strike to DeVante Parker. This lack of trust in the offense was apparent at the end of the first half, too, when the Patriots chose to just run out the clock with 1:53 remaining and two timeouts instead of trying to score. It wasn’t until the Dolphins’ 11th game of the season that Parker was able to finally show why he was the team’s 1st-round pick. “We’ve just got a lot of work to do and that’s what we’re going to do”.
Miami quarterback Ryan Tannehill passed for 350 yards and two touchdowns.
His last three games in particular left Dolphins fans to wonder how well he could have done if he stayed healthy.
