Wisconsin (3-0): The Badgers descended back to earth after just squeaking by Georgia State at home. They only led 6-0 at halftime, which surprisingly proved to be the difference. They look to bounce back at Rutgers. You don’t exactly want that extra week for a team like Wake Forest with how tough the Big Ten is, especially with Demon Deacon quarterback Kendall Hinton out.
Maryland Terrapins – It’s a win but, really, TWO OVERTIMES to beat UCF? The unfortunate thing about that is the Hawkeyes just lost to North Dakota State, an FCS team. The other two, Wisconsin and Iowa, are probably more favored, but they aren’t playing each other. It was a chest-thumping win for Ohio State and the Big Ten. It’s cool. Ohio State marched into Norman and sealed a convincing victory. Thomson looked good this week and perhaps playing a bad Duke team is what you guys needed.
If you missed Oregonian columnist John Canzano’s column from the Oregon-Nebraska game, it’s worth a read. Stanford continued their quest for a playoff spot with a 27-10 victory over USC. But TCU, Oklahoma State and West Virginia still could make some noise.
Through three games so far this season, the Buckeyes now lead the Big Ten in points per game with 56.7. The Cardinals have legitimate playoff hopes. They trailed 21-7 in the first quarter before pouring it on. The Wolverines sputtered on offense a little, but Jabrill Peppers, man.
And if you’d really like to pile on the Big 12, you might note that Louisville – the biggest winners of the weekend – could’ve been in that conference and that current conference hopeful Houston is hanging out in the top 10.
