Big victories for legal pot, but path ahead is uncertain
Regardless of how a still-contested legalization vote turns out in ME, more than 1 in 5 Americans now live in states where the recreational use of marijuana is, or soon will be, legal. But a recount can be requested with no financial cost for race results within 1.5 percentage points. Legal weed in ME has a narrow lead and could be contested in a recount, according to the Bangor Daily News.

“Most voters do not think otherwise law-abiding citizens should be criminalized for using a product that is much safer than alcohol”, said Rob Kampia, the executive director of the pro-legalization Marijuana Policy Project.
“I obviously voted yes, I was super excited to vote for question four I had it in my calendar marked for like two months”, Richards said.
“The Maine people have passed it, and we should work on implementing it”, said Republican state Sen. Gagnon attributed the apparent passage of the question to his campaign being vastly outspent.
The government plans to remove marijuana consumption and incidental possession from the Criminal Code and create new laws to more severely punish those who provide the weed to minors or drive under its influence. According to the Associated Press and KTHV, “some political leaders said they preferred that Arkansas legislators instead allow a version of the drug that is low in THC, which gives marijuana its high”. The initiative passed 54 percent to 46 percent. At 4 p.m. we’ll begin live uninterrupted coverage of national election results. “We intend to explore all options, including a recount, to make sure this major policy change is given the attention and scrutiny it demands”.
Unlike other absentee ballots, the overseas ballots are sent straight to Augusta.
The results mean marijuana is now legal in some form in 29 USA states. And we are seeing – the polling shows that there’s support for that.
Until new legislation comes into effect, current laws and rules remain in place, Bardsley added. If experienced converters were to partner with budding marijuana brands in the newly legalized states, they could be key resources in helping the brands meet regulations or child-proof requirements, similar to pharmaceutical packaging.
Gov. Paul LePage and the group Mainers Protecting Our Youth and Communities opposes legalization.
Trump may have won the White House, but voters who support legalizing marijuana proved to be big winners as well, reports The Washington Post.
Khurram Malik, the cannabis lead at Jacob Capital Management, says the news could also help Canadian marijuana companies secure funding by making investors more comfortable with the sector.
