Bihar was the first state – in 2005 – to reserve 50% seats in local bodies for women when the quota mandated by the Panchayati Raj Act was only 33%.

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav on Monday branded Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a “coward” for not breaking his silence on the Dadri lynching case and said that someone who otherwise keeps on talking for show has not said a word till now.

The RJD chief has debuted his Dubsmash persona with a performance that was uploaded on the RJD’s official YouTube account.

Lalu’s remark raises questions over the unity within Mahagathbandhan or the grand alliance which is fighting the elections against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Sonia and Rahul Gandhi will address a series of rallies in the state ahead of the crucial five-phase assembly elections.

Claiming that the secular alliance was in “disarray” even before the polls in Bihar, Modi said that it will “disintegrate” after the polls.

Modi, while speaking at a rally in Bihar on Friday had said that Bihar must vote for development, which can come only with investment.

“Development needs investment. The government in Delhi has opened its coffers for Bihar”.

The NDA government at the Centre has also saved lives of lakhs of cows by preventing smuggling of animals to neighbouring country, the former deputy chief minister said.

CPI-M general secretary Sitaram Yechuri and CPI-ML general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya use road and rail routes to campaign in places where they are contesting, not just because they don’t have the kind of money that other parties have but also to identify themselves more with the masses and their modes of travel.
