Bihar minister quits after sting video shows him taking bribe

There was more trouble for former Bihar minister, Awadhesh Prasad Kushwaha, as the police registered a First Information Report against him in connection with a sting video that allegedly showed him accepting bribe. He said Kushwaha will not be the JD(U) candidate for Pipra assembly constituency in East Champaran district where the party will field another nominee.

The executive magistrate’s report came in the wake of the direction of the Election Commission which had asked the District Magistrate to get the incident probed.

Speaking on the issue, additional chief electoral officer R. Lakshmanan said, “It’s not just one sting video but we are in possession of two sting operations and the matter is being investigated”. “Anything regarding this can only be said after probe report comes in”.

“The party believes that the sting operation is true. Major scam can be exposed in various ministries, including the road construction department”. Meanwhile, Senior Bihar BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi told reporters that a CBI inquiry should be ordered to bring the truth of the Nitish Kumar government.

The party will now have a new candidate for the constituency.

“I have sent in my resignation after talking to the Chief Minister after allegations of accepting Rs 4 lakh cropped up”, Kushwaha told PTI.
