Bihar polls: EVM failure briefly halts polling

Around 13 percent turnout was recorded in the first two hours of polling in 49 Assembly constituencies of Bihar in a peaceful atmosphere.

The fate of 583 candidates will be sealed on Monday, including 54 women.

Elaborated safety preparations have been made to make sure free and truthful polling.

According to reports, most of the areas are naxal infested where the polling is underway and in view of this, central paramilitary forces have been deployed at every booth. The BJP has fielded 27 candidates – the rest of the seats will be contested by its allies, including 13 seats for Ram Vilas Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party.

Polling will continue till 5pm in most assembly constituencies barring a few affected by left-wing extremism where it will end by 3pm or 4pm
