Biles, Hernandez perform in women’s beam final in Rio
Simone Biles of the United States took gold in the women’s floor exercise on Tuesday, the final women’s gymnastics event at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

The crowd was much thinner in the Rio Olympic Arena, but that didn’t matter for US gymnast Simone Biles.
Biles stayed in the hunt for a record five gold medals by a female gymnast at one Olympic Games. However, she fell short of earning any medals on the apparatus finals in London, placing eighth in uneven bars and seventh in balance beam. But her character is what will catapult her through life, much further than gymnastics – or even Olympic gold. Hernandez accepted the assignment without complaint, her voice among the loudest in the arena during Biles’ gold-clinching floor exercise. The American women have never won Olympic gold in the sport.
World and European champion Eleftherios Petrounias won the men’s rings earlier on Monday, an even 16.000 enough to continue his dominance of the event. “You know, felt good, I wanted to do it”.
Where, when and how can you catch the 2016 Rio Olympics women’s gymnastics vault finals?
Going last among the eight female finalists, Biles drilled her Amanar – a round off onto the block followed by 21/2 twists – and put up a 15.9 to take the lead.
Manuel won gold – sharing first place with Penny Oleksiak of Canada – in the women’s 100-meter freestyle at the Olympic Aquatics Center on Thursday night, to become the first African-American woman to win an individual Olympic title.
-The German Olympic team said canoe slalom coach Stefan Henze has died from injuries sustained in a auto crash last week.
Yet the photograph she posted with Simone Manuel on Friday likely has more significance than most, for two athletes who made their mark on the Games just hours apart and delighted the nation in the process. Bronze medalist Giulia Steingruber had the next highest individual vault score with a 15.533.
“Yall aight out there? bc I’m more than happy!” she added. Born with hip dysplasia and battered by years of constant training as a teenager, she has undergone 19 surgical procedures, including replacements for both hips and underwent back surgery in June prompted by a degenerative bone disorder. “We try to say that she is a super human, but actually I think probably a little bit the pressure get to her or just mentally under the situation that you permanently have to focus and permanently have to be extremely sharp”.
“It was very simple”, Chusovitina said.
