Biles powers United States of America to gymnastics team gold

Having dominated the Olympic qualifiers, it’s no surprise the US gymnastics team just won gold in the all-around finals. On Sunday, Hosszu shattered the world record in the 400-meter individual medley to win gold and on Monday became the first two-time gold medalist at Rio’s Olympic Aquatics Stadium when she won the women’s 100 backstroke title.

The final in the 200m men’s butterfly event will air tonight.

The Final Five join the Fierce Five – a team that included Raisman and Douglas – and the Magnificent Seven as the United States’ Olympic champions. Douglas is particularly strong on bars and on the floor, while Hernandez, who placed second at Olympic trials, is especially valuable on beam and floor.

“She is going to bring the American team to win team gold”, Michael Drennen said.

Britain took bronze at last year’s World Championships in Glasgow and there was little separating them from the medals here, but mistakes cost the quintet of Ruby Harold, sisters Elissa and Rebecca Downie, Amy Tinkler and Claudia Fragapane dear.

He now says he will retire after the Rio games.

Chad released a statement shortly before the Rio Olympics when he announced his parents’ situation, and he said that he hoped that they would be able to make it to Rio to cheer him on again. Michael Phelps, who has taken home the most medals in Olympics history, will face off with Tamás Kenderesi of Hungary in the men’s-200 meter butterfly final at 9:28 p.m. Kenderesi won both his heat and semifinal in the event.

It’s show time for the U.S women’s team, which made a statement in Sunday’s qualifiers by posting a top score that outpaced second-place China by a staggering 10 points.

The Japanese men topped Russian Federation in the team finals to take gold on Monday. That’s a 35 percent drop compared to the 40.7 million USA viewers who watched the opening of the London Games four years ago – although NBC is pointing to more time-shifted viewing and streaming as factors in the decrease.

The US women are also on a winning streak.

In other soccer action, the defending champion US women’s soccer team takes on Columbia. The Americans are 1-0 in Pool C.

But on Tuesday afternoon, the focus is squarely on the team final. They play Brazil later in the day.
