Bilic hails two-goal Payet

“They’ve been told it’s disappointing and the only thing you can do is dust yourself down and look forward to challenge of a home game on Saturday and the opportunity to put that result to bed”. West Ham have had an inconsistent start, but have shown some signs that they are consolidating themselves into a top half team.

West Ham boss Slaven Bilic praised the impact of Payet, who has now scored three times since a £10.7m move from Marseille in the summer.

Payet gave the Hammers an early lead when he curled the ball past Tim Krul from the edge of the penalty area.

The team bus had got stuck in heavy traffic in east London, and the club asked referee Anthony Taylor if it would be possible to put the kick-off back to allow the players time to warm-up.

Nikica Jelavic gives options to the West Ham frontline after joining from Hull City, with him scoring 70 goals in British football including 30 goals in 45 appearances for Rangers, before spells in the Premier League with Everton and Hull.

Club manager Steve McClaren said, according to BBC Sports, “We need the breaks”.

“This was a wake up call”.

“That’s good, because had it been tomorrow it’s a problem, but if you’re asking about the squad for Monday we still have to count all the players who will train together, and that will be tomorrow”.

For Bilic, it was a notable first home victory since he replaced Sam Allardyce as manager and continued a positive start that includes impressive victories at Arsenal and Liverpool.

McClaren said: “He came over and that was kind of kiss and make-up, and he’s been very good ever since to me”.

Head coach McClaren, again without suspended striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, is ready to recall Perez, who was lively when he came off the bench, along with Siem de Jong, with 60 minutes gone against West Ham.

Three minutes into the second half Payet wrapped up the win when he followed up after Victor Moses’ shot crashed against the crossbar.

“I thought we worked hard together as a team, we deserved the game and we dominated really”.
