Bill Bennett: GOP Establishment Have ‘Closed Their Minds’ to Trump

Trump remains the front-runner in the Republican primary, but his path to winning the 1,237 delegates he needs tow in a majority and secure the nomination outright has narrowed.

So far, only Trump and Cruz would qualify.

The same might be said of efforts to rejuvenate his campaign, which is in the midst of a shake-up exemplified this week by the departure of field director Stuart Jolly, who had been charged with hiring volunteers and building ground operations ahead of state primaries.

Carson is scheduled to speak with party leaders when Trump campaign leaders Paul Manafort and Rick Wiley host their strategy session here Thursday evening.

“No one signed it, and that was a mutual agreement between all of us”, Romero-Diaz said. “So much depends on the number of unbound delegates and their willingness to support Trump”. “Donald Trump’s campaign does not know how to organize on the grass roots”, Cruz said, allowing him to win those delegates “over and over and over again”.

“Things have been drawn in such a way that it is probably a lot harder for a candidate like that to find pure conservative votes”, said Steve Raabe, an unaligned GOP pollster based in Annapolis.

So how does one become a delegate to the State Convention or one of those congressional district conventions?

Before the convention votes on a nominee, delegates must sign pledges effectively binding them to the candidates to whom their delegate slots are assigned. Cruz has tried to clarify that he was referring only to New York’s “left-wing Democratic policies”, but Trump has slammed Cruz over the line, which he says is disrespectful of the city’s perseverance after the 9/11 terror attacks.

But in Pennsylvania and Maryland, with their more intricate systems for awarding delegates, are poised to at least give Cruz some targets at which to shoot.

That’s why it pays for presidential campaigns to know how the delegate process works inside states, and not just focus on the popular vote.

Lowman Henry, Cruz’s chairman in the state, talked up his organization to reporters Tuesday evening in Philadelphia, pledging to run “18 different congressional district campaigns”. In Massachusetts, the delegation will choose rules committee members in June. Ted Cruz, the leading contenders, and Ohio Gov.

A top Irish-American congressman has vowed to kill himself if Senator Ted Cruz wins the Republican party’s nomination for president. Kasich is scheduled to meet with RNC members Wednesday evening. The comments, included in an email he sent Monday that was obtained by The Associated Press, come two days before party leaders gather in Hollywood, Florida, to discuss whether to propose changing bylaws for the convention. Cruz quietly began $700,000 worth of advertising there this week. The Republican hierarchy doesn’t want a messy, seemingly endless series of ballots, nor does it want a nominee who appears chosen in a back room by faceless operatives.
