Clinton took the stage to roaring applause from flag-waving delegates on the final night of the Democratic convention, relishing her nomination as the first woman to lead a major USA political party. CNN reported Obama told the crowd at the DNC that America was strong and he thought Clinton was the person to take the country forward.
“For the past year, many people made the mistake of laughing off Donald Trump’s comments – excusing him as an entertainer just putting on a show”, she said. “Instead, we will build an economy where everyone who wants a good job, will get one”.

Highlighting occasions when Mr Trump had apparently responded to criticism, she said: ‘If you dare, imagine him in the Oval Office facing a real crisis – a man you can bait with a tweet, a not a man you can trust with nuclear weapons’. Clinton said she’s not here to take away guns. “I’m voting for the progressive who will protect our planet from climate change and our communities from gun violence; who will reform our criminal justice system; and who knows that women’s rights are human rights; and who knows that LGBT [Q] rights are human rights, here at home and around the world”.
During her speech, Clinton also reached out to supporters of Bernie Sanders, many of whom think she is too moderate. “I hope that my children will someday be as proud of me as I am of my mom”, she said.

“You’ve put economic and social issues front and centre where they belong, and to all of your supporters, here and around the country, I’ve heard you”. The speech was good, as numerous president’s speeches are, but it was yet another reminder that the president will soon not be the president.
