Bill Clinton backing Kaine for Democratic VP pick
The presumptive Democratic nominee for president has narrowed down the VP field to four contenders, according to The New York Times.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will begin her swing through Florida on Friday, which includes rallies in Tampa that day and Miami on Saturday.
“I went through the process in 2008, so I kinda know the rhythm of it, and I’m glad that I do but a decision is very late, I don’t expect a decision will be made, announced until the weekend between the two conventions so and that’s all I really know right now”, said Sen. “It’s wonderful to be mentioned. But I love my job and trying not to overly think it”.
What are the chances that Vilsack, the longest-serving ag secretary in 50 years and former Iowa governor, will join Clinton’s ticket? “I know what it’s like being president”.
“I’m glad the waiting game is almost over”, Kaine said Thursday. I’ve seen it up close, I’ve worked for one, I’ve had that experience. Vilsack served two terms as governor of Iowa before joining Obama’s Cabinet.
The deliberations, led by campaign chairman John Podesta, have been extraordinarily private – a striking contrast to those of Donald Trump.
Booker, a freshman senator and former mayor of Newark, has drawn relatively little attention throughout Clinton’s vice-presidential selection process but remains a serious prospect. And Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, who was participating in a town hall meeting on opioids in the St. Louis area, refused to comment on the vetting process.
Booker, a charismatic New Jersey senator, is on Clinton’s short list, in part, because of his ability to fire up crowds and the fact that he would consolidate the electorate that helped Obama win the presidency twice.
But Booker’s possible candidacy comes with a host of political pitfalls, too. Cory Booker, and Ohio Sen. Bernie Sanders’ anti-Wall Street rhetoric. “So for me there is nothing more important than my rock-solid conviction that the person I choose could literally get up one day and be the president of the United States”, Clinton told CBS News on Monday”. Although several outside advisers thought they could read between the lines of her thinking, Clinton is a pro when it comes to keeping her cards close and holding outsiders at arm’s length.
Action around Clinton’s home on Wednesday was limited to gawking tourists, delivery trucks and pest control vans.
According to Democratic Party representatives who spoke with The Washington Post, it does not appear that Perez is being considered quite as seriously as Kain and Vilsack, but is a promising third choice.

Crews were still sweeping confetti from the GOP convention floor as the Clinton campaign signaled an announcement was coming soon. If there’s a flaw in his armor, it may be the recent report by Politico that Kaine took full advantage of Virginia’s lax ethics law governing public officials by accepting more than $160,000 of gifts between 2001 and 2009, when he served as lieutenant governor and governor.
