In a speech at the convention later Tuesday, former US President Bill Clinton paid tribute to his wife, saying “she would make America stronger together”, a reference to her campaign slogan, “because she’s been doing it all of her life”.

A unanimous state-by-state vote has officially made Clinton the party’s nominee.

Like many of Sanders’ most fervent supporters, Clark said that despite the pleas, he can not envision voting for Clinton.

The scandal has further hardened some Sanders supporters in their opposition to Clinton who was largely painted as the establishment candidate during the primary by her opponent. Melissa Michelson, a Sanders delegate from Los Angeles, said she came to show solidarity with “the political revolution, that is continuing”.

“Women account for about one-in-10 of today’s leaders of United Nations member states”, the report said.

“I’m strictly joined at the hip to Hillary Clinton, and I’ve admired her all of her life”, Emmett said.

At the 2008 Democratic National Convention, Mrs Clinton called for a vote for Barack Obama by acclamation, ending the roll call vote in an effort to unite the party behind his candidacy.

Clinton’s nomination has been assured for quite some time, but going into the convention this week, it remained unclear if the party would rally around her. That question has now largely been answered.

“She was easy to underestimate with her soft manner”, he said, noting that meeting her mother Dorothy and “knowing her was one of he greatest gifts to me”.

Dissention on the convention floor plagued the first day when Sanders supporters booed throughout the event.

Clinton will run against Donald Trump – who secured the Republican nomination just last week – in the fall.

The second night of the Democratic convention featured former President Bill Clinton, who was taking the stage to deliver a personal validation for his wife.

Clinton, 68, will be watching from home in Chappaqua, New York, as her husband speaks, campaign officials said.

“We just put the biggest crack in that glass ceiling yet”, a smiling Clinton declared as she made a surprise appearance on video at night’s end, to the roar of delegates.

Clinton was hampered by an investigation into her use of a private email server, and was considered too moderate by her party’s newly-energized left wing.
