However, he recommended against prosecuting Clinton or her aides for their “extremely careless” handling of classified information on the private email server that she used as secretary of state.

Bill Clinton defended the Democratic nominee for president Friday during a question-and-answer period at a Las Vegas forum organized by the Asian American Journalists Association and APIA Vote.

He added, “They saw two little notes with a “C” on it – this is the biggest load of bull I’ve ever heard – that were about telephone calls that she needed to make”.

“There are people who spent their lifetimes advancing national security who believe she’s the only person that you can trust”, Clinton said.

Mrs Clinton’s legal team turned over more than 30,000 emails from her server to the State Department last March, but only after deleting another 30,000 messages that were deemed private and personal.

Amid the row, Ms Clinton has published her tax return and challenged her Republican opponent Donald Trump to do the same.

“Although we did not find clear evidence that Secretary Clinton or her colleagues meant to violate laws governing the handling of classified information, there is evidence that they were extremely careless in their handling of very sensitive, highly classified information”, the Federal Bureau of Investigation director said.

Clinton had made no bones that she was shortsighted in using her private email server as secretary of state.

Clinton threw Secretary of State John Kerry under the bus while casting Hillary as the real victim here, saying Kerry also used a personal email account up until past year.
