Bill Clinton: Hillary Needs ‘Big Victory’ Against Sanders in NY

Hillary Clinton is maintaining her double-digit lead over Democratic presidential rival Bernie Sanders in NY ahead of the April 19 primary, according to a new poll. “I believe we have an excellent chance to win NY and a lot of delegates in that state”.

Sanders has racked up eight wins in the last nine contests and was joined on stage by singer and civil rights icon Harry Belafonte and Erica Snipes, the daughter of Eric Garner.

It takes 2,383 delegates to win the Democratic nomination for president.

The New York Times reports that the news of his win in Wyoming was delivered to Bernie Sanders while he was speaking on stage at a community college in Queens, New York. But considering 469 of Clinton’s 1,774 delegates are unpledged delegates, the real race – based on caucuses and primaries – has Sanders only behind by 219 delegates.

Without winning 60 percent of the vote in the NY primary, securing him 146 pledged delegates to Clinton’s 101, and locking up the remaining uncommitted superdelegates, Sanders will leave the Empire State with fewer convention votes in his pocket than Clinton, primary victory or not.

Despite Saturday’s win in the Wyoming caucuses, Mr Sanders still has only 1061 delegates to 1749 for Mrs Clinton, when the latter’s 469 superdelegates are added to the tally.

After a back-and-forth about who was most qualified to be president, Clinton and Sanders dialed back their criticism of one another on Friday. “We just won Wyoming”, he told the crowd, generating cheers.

Sanders has ties to NY as well.

Bernie Sanders won the Wyoming caucus this afternoon. Clinton’s 40-point lead in that state is now down 13 percentage points.

Meanwhile, when CNN’s Jake Tapper posed the same question to Sanders in a separate CNN interview, he said he wasn’t as confident about her ability to lead the country.

In the Republican race, Ted Cruz hopes to pick up more delegates in Colorado.

Two are party leaders and two are national committee members who are allowed to vote independently for the candidate for their choice.

While Bill Clinton stumped for his wife on Monday, Hillary Clinton did not campaign in Wyoming, choosing to focus instead on events in NY, where she is now viewed as a favorite for the upcoming primary.
