Former president Bill Clinton assured a Las Vegas rally Wednesday that his wife Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton was healing from her recent ill health and was ready to hit the campaign trail, but seemed to not remember which illness she was actually suffering from.
Clinton has defended her family’s philanthropic organizations against accusations by Donald Trump, her Republican rival, and others that wealthy donors, including foreigners and corporate leaders, might expect favorable treatment from the US government.
In addition to the departure of the Clintons from the CHAI board, three others with close ties to the Clintons will also step down: Bruce Lindsey, who serves on the Clinton Foundation Board; Ira Magaziner, vice chairman and chief executive officer of CHAI; and Maggie Williams, Hillary Clinton’s 2008 campaign manager and director of the Institute of Politics at Harvard University.
Clinton Foundation President Donna Shalala admitted that the organization would shift some of its work to other groups if Hillary Clinton is elected president.
The organization will retain its acronym but remove “Clinton” from its name and separate from the Clinton Foundation. Chelsea Clinton would remain on the foundation’s board and CHAI, the affiliated health project, would continue to accept corporate and foreign money.
Regardless of her campaign’s talking points, though, it seems that plenty of Americans are highly skeptical when it comes Clinton’s stamina – a viewpoint that this untimely Women’s Health article has only helped reinforce.
‘It speaks volumes that the Clinton Foundation’s CEO would casually admit on national television that its donors received access and “courtesy appointments” at Hillary Clinton’s State Department, ‘ Jason Miller, Trump’s senior communications advisor, said in a statement. And he dismissed criticism of the Clinton Foundation, referencing a campaign contribution Trump made from his personal foundation to a political action committee supporting Florida’s attorney general.
We’ve got a call into CBS, but no word back yet.
The Clinton campaign is releasing more detail about her pneumonia diagnosis.
