Bill Clinton praises Dems for nominating real Hillary, not GOP ‘cartoon’
“Rep. John Lewis of Georgia, in nominating Clinton, said ‘she will fight for us all with her heart, her soul and her mind”.

President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden will both be on hand to make their case for Clinton – potentially overshadowing the rest of the evening’s roster. A 102-year-old woman, born before women had the right to vote, cast the ballots for Arizona.
His speech offered an unusual twist to the warm spousal endorsement of a presidential candidate traditionally given in party conventions by a wife, not a man – let alone a former president of the United States. “Hillary didn’t get the nomination”.
Sen. Barbara Mikulski of Maryland emphasized the historic nature of the moment in nominating Clinton Tuesday afternoon.
Sections of the convention hall were left conspicuously unpopulated on Tuesday night as delegates from strongly pro-Sanders delegations, including California, walked out after Sanders moved that Clinton be named the nominee.
Bernie Sanders said he plans to return to the Senate as an independent, despite winning 13 million votes in the Democratic Party’s presidential primary contest.
U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton rallies campaign volunteers in Charlotte, North Carolina, U.S. July 25, 2016.
Despite Sanders’ calls for them to support Clinton, thousands of activists have taken to the streets during the convention this week to voice support for the liberal Vermont US senator and his progressive agenda. “If there are any little girls out there who stayed up late to watch, I might become the first woman President, but one of you is next”.
“We are sick of Democratic rhetoric”, New Jersey delegate Derel Stroud, who was not in the tent but took part in the protest, said outside.
Mr Clinton closed the second night of the Democratic convention, a jubilant celebration of Hillary Clinton’s formal nomination for president.
Because Hillary, he said, “has been around a long time making people’s lives better”. Clinton has met privately with the mothers and held events with them, and they’ve become an emotional force for her campaign.
But also introducing himself to the nation Wednesday night will be Kaine, just days after being tapped by Clinton as her running mate. College student Cory James expects the Democratic Party to split over the nomination. “We came in here and then we all had a seat”, she said.
Other Tuesday night speakers included actresses Lena Dunham and America Ferrara, 9-11 survivor Lauren Manning, Sen. The former president traced his relationship with his wife back more than 40 years, recalling in great detail the first time he spotted her on campus and the impact she had on pushing him into politics. But he carries some liabilities.
Disgruntled Sanders supporters expressed their displeasure with the outcome by holding a silent protest inside one of two media centre tents outside the convention arena.
Sanders has been viewed by many as a genuine political candidate.

Union leader Richard Trumka said Clinton needed to avoid overshadowing his wife in Tuesday’s speech. When they married in 1975, “I was still in awe after more than four years of being around her at how smart and strong and loving and caring she was”, he said.
