Bill Clinton to give ‘very personal’ defense of foundation

Foreign officials and governments were big donors to the Clintons’ family foundation, and there were concerns in the Obama administration about conflicts of interest between the foundation and Hillary Clinton’s work at Secretary of State.

The Fragrance Foundation, a trade group for the perfume industry, paid former President Bill Clinton $260,000 to give a speech in January 2014 that lasted less than an hour.

But did the Foundation staff tell these donors that there was a clear and impenetrable firewall between preventing them from even asking the State Department for things?

The former president pushed back on criticism that donors to the Clintons Foundation engaged in a “pay-to-play” scheme, whereby donations to the foundation bought influence with Hillary Clinton during her term as Secretary of State.

Some staff will remain to continue working with donors, but several CGI employees have already been informed that their jobs will be terminated, according to a report published Tuesday by Politico, citing two former Clinton Foundation officials with knowledge of the matter.

The Clinton Foundation, particularly the Clinton Global Initiative, is preparing to undergo wholesale changes at the end of the year given the chances that Hillary Clinton will be elected president in November.

Bloomberg said on its website that Monday marks the beginning of CGI’s 12th and final annual meeting, that will be “a little less global, lighter on initiative and absent one Clinton”.

The Clintons have come under constant fire in recent months amid continuing questions regarding conflicts of interest between the Foundation and the Clinton State Department.. It’s unclear how many people will be losing their jobs. “They did great work”, he said.

Former President Bill Clinton insists there’s “nothing to” accusations that his daughter Chelsea Clinton’s plans to stay on the board of the Clinton Foundation would allow her to act as a “conduit” to her mother, Hillary Clinton, if she’s elected in November.

“This e-mail thing was treated like the most important event since the end of World War II”, he said.
