Bill Cosby case goes to court
Constand, 42, alleged that Cosby drugged her and violated her in 2004 at his home in Cheltenham Township, near Philadelphia.

Meanwhile, L.A.-based attorney Gloria Allred said numerous almost 30 clients she represents who allege Cosby drugged and sexually assaulted them would be willing to testify against the comedian in the Pennsylvania case.
Cosby was arrested and charged Wednesday with drugging and sexually assaulting a woman at his home 12 years ago.
In a four-day deposition in the civil lawsuit Ms. Constand filed against him, he said he had acquired Quaaludes with the intent of using them in sexual encounters with women but maintained that their encounter was consensual.
The prosecutor said the woman considered Cosby “a mentor and friend”.
That deposition, in which Mr. Cosby offered detailed descriptions of his relationships with Ms. Constand and multiple other women, has now become a central component to the charges.
His lawyers commented, “The charge by the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office came as no surprise, filed 12 years after the alleged incident and coming on the heels of a hotly contested election for this county’s DA during which this case was made the focal point”. A frail-looking Cosby, 78, walking with a cane and accompanied by two lawyers, appeared for his arraignment hours later at a courthouse just outside Philadelphia, where he posted a $1 million bond, turned over his passport and was ordered to avoid any contact with his accuser.
“She’s a very strong lady”, Troiani said. It is the first time he has been criminally charged.
Constand’s allegations and similar ones from other women in the years that followed did not receive wide attention at the time but exploded into view in late 2014, first online, then in the wider media, after comedian Hannibal Buress mocked the moralizing Cosby as a hypocrite and called him a rapist during a standup routine. Almost all of those allegations have proven to be too old to prosecute, though many have spawned ongoing civil suits in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and California.
In January 2005, Canadian police forwarded a report of their investigation to Pennsylvania authorities.
He urged her to relax and take some pills, the complaint said, adding that he told her “these will make you feel good….” She said, “All I want is to say that I support these women, I was one of them”.
Earlier this month, Cosby sued seven of his accusers, saying the women who said they were assaulted were lying and had defamed his “honourable legacy and reputation”.
In his deposition, Cosby said he gave Constand three half-pills of Benadryl for stress, telling her only that they were her “friends”. “And so I continue…” He said he fondled Constand, taking her silence as a green light. “I am not stopped”, Cosby testified.
Ms. Constand told police she woke up at 4 the next morning with her sweater bunched up and her bra undone. “Probably it is going to be the highest-profile criminal case in this country, at least involving a celebrity”, she said.

The AP generally does not identify people who say they have been sexually assaulted unless they agree to have their names published, as Constand has done.
