“We are here to announce today charges that have just been filed against William Henry Cosby”, said Kevin R. Steele, First Assistant District Attorney.
Nightly News’ Kate Snow, who interviewed several women who accused Bill Cosby of sexual assault, said the women’s reactions have been emotional and mixed.
“For many of my 29 clients who alleged that they are victims of Bill Cosby, seeing him criminally charged and having to face a trial, is the best Christmas present that they have ever received”, said attorney Gloria Allred.
Cosby is being arraigned Wednesday afternoon on a charge filed over a 2004 encounter in his home outside Philadelphia.
Cosby’s lawyer declined to comment on the case before the announcement. Her criminal case against Cosby was reopened this summer.
Lambert said sexual assault survivors don’t always come forward for fear of not being believed. His lawyer has called the allegations “ridiculous” and said it’s “completely illogical” that no one would have made reports to police. He appeared in court Wednesday and posted his $1 million bail a short time later.
The District Attorney said the case involves Andrea Constand, a former Temple University employee, who Cosby invited to his home near Philadelphia in 2004. She considered him “her mentor and her friend”, Steele added.
Lena Dunham, Amy Schumer and Judd Apatow led the celebrity reaction to Bill Cosby being charged with sexual assault on Wednesday.
A number of the fallen TV star’s other accusers applauded prosecutors for finally taking action on Wednesday, and before the arraignment, filmmaker Judd Apatow, who has been an outspoken critic of Cosby’s, also weighed in on the legal development.
Although they did not press for criminal or civil cases, both Colorado women claim to be among Cosby’s victims.
“I think Andrea is a liar and I know she’s a liar because I was there”. And so I continue and I go into the area that is somewhere between permission and rejection.
She was “frozen, paralyzed, unable to move”, according to Steele. The DA says Cosby gave Constand pills and wine which made her incapable of consent. “In making this finding, the District Attorney has analyzed the facts in relation to the elements of any applicable offenses, including whether Mr. Cosby possessed the requisite criminal intent”. “Naturally it is troubling in that it took until the eleventh hour for this day to arrive”, Troiani stated. He urged other victims to contact his office.

Prosecutors are right up against the expiration of the 12-year statue of limitations for sexual assault cases in Pennsylvania, which will close early next year. He countersued one group of seven accusers in federal court in MA earlier this month and filed a defamation lawsuit against model Beverly Johnson in Los Angeles last week.
