Bill Cosby’s Attorney Speaks Out Against Felony Charges
Cosby had no comment on his way in and out of court as he was arraigned on a charge of aggravated indecent assault, punishable by five to 10 years behind bars and a $25,000 fine.

The sight of 78-year-old Bill Cosby walking with a cane into a Pennsylvania courthouse as he held the hands of his lawyers on Wednesday was in stark contrast to the spry, wisecracking 1980s TV father most Americans remember. “Acts of the accused with this offense: William Henry Cosby did penetrate the genitals of the complainant with a part of his body after Cosby substantially impaired the complainant’s power to appease or control her conduct by administering drugs, intoxicants or other means for the objective of preventing resistance”, states a criminal complaint made public on Wednesday.
“But he’s in good spirits and he knows that he has a legal team that is intent on defending him until he’s exonerated”.
Cosby has continued to deny the allegations.
Cosby’s next preliminary hearing is set for January 14. “This is a felony”, Kevin Steele, a county assistant district attorney, told reporters in Norristown, outside Philadelphia.
In 2005, Constand claimed that Cosby invited her to his home and that on one occasion in 2004 he gave her pills and wine, which made her unresponsive. Steele said the victim had said she was willing to cooperate with prosecutors.
Cosby is charged with drugging and sexually assaulting the woman.
“We don’t want a jury to say, ‘If he did it once before, he must have done it now, ‘” said Philadelphia attorney Jeffrey Lindy, who is unconnected to the Cosby case. Among other things, Cosby admitted that he had repeatedly pursued sex with younger, often-struggling models and actresses and that he obtained quaaludes to give to some of them. This is the first criminal charges brought against the comedian out of the torrent of allegations that destroyed his good-guy image as America’s Dad.
The former university employee settled her lawsuit against Cosby in 2006 on confidential terms.
In court papers, prosecutors said there are probably other women who were similarly drugged and violated by Cosby.
“A prosecutor’s job is to follow the evidence wherever it takes us, and sometimes that means whenever it comes to light”, Steele said at Wednesday’s news conference.
Castor tried to reclaim his job as DA in the November election but lost to Steele in a hotly contested race in which the Cosby case played a central role.
But Constand contends that she is actually a lesbian and Cosby didn’t even take that fact into consideration when assaulting her. Constand is a courageous lady who is not afraid to stand up for her rights.
“There’s nothing in that deposition where Mr. Cosby admits to committing any crime”, she said.
Over 50 women have come forward to blame Cosby as an inveterate horndog who assaulted them in one way or another.

Joan Tarshis, of Woodstock, New York, who accused Cosby of drugging and attacking her when she was breaking into comedy writing in 1969, referred questions to Joseph Cammarata, a Washington-based attorney who is representing her in the MA defamation case that Tarshis and six other women filed against the comedian.
