Bill Gates is America’s richest for 22nd straight year

Forbes’ annual list of the richest Americans was released Tuesday, revealing which 400 people are the country’s wealthiest, and it was a good year to be in technology. And Larry Page, CEO of Google, moved from number 13 in 2014 to land the 10th spot, with US$33.3bil (RM146.81bil). Kohler ranked No. 65 among Americans this year, up from 90th a year ago. (No. 209, $3.1 billion), and auto dealer Herb Chambers (No. 392, $1.7 billion). Forbes’ final number ultimately put Trump’s worth at $4.5 billion – less than half of the billion he’s claimed to have in the past, and less than the worth of the average billionaire on Forbes’ list ($5.8 billion).

Trump first made the Forbes 400 list in 1982, when he shared the position with his father Fred, the original Trump real-estate tycoon who made millions building apartments in Brooklyn and Queens before handing over the family business to his son.

And of course, Bill Gates took the top spot overall at $76 billion. Other newcomers are UBER’s founder and CEO Travis Kalanick who doubled his fortune to $6 billion in just one year, Tennessee governor Bill Haslam with $2.1 billion, and the 25-year-old Snapchat boss Evan Spiegel with his $2.1 billion.

Rich people in America just keep getting richer. You’re a multimillionaire merely on 2-percent CDs earning $42 million a year. With few, if any, exceptions, the billionaires on the list didnt make it by engaging in some particularly shrewd trading strategy on Wall Street.

Team value leaps boosted Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones to $5 billion and Robert Kraft, owner of the reigning Super Bowl champion New England Patriots, to $4.8 billion.

One thing that the “Forbes 400” list confirmed is, the richer is getting richer with more than 200 participants gaining more and more each year. Bezos’ jump of $16.5 billion over the past year was the biggest uptick for anyone on the list, Forbes said, adding that several technology-company chieftains benefited from a notable rise in wealth, at least into early September.
