When you’re making a shortlist of legitimate American, nay, Earthling heroes – that list should always include Bill Nye, the undeniably preeminent science guy.

David Alvarado and Jason Sussberg are partnering with Producer Seth Gordon (he of Freakonomics and The Goldbergs fame) to “make the definitive film on Bill Nye the Science Guy and his quest to change the world with science”. “Bill’s passion and enthusiasm stayed with us, and When we learned that Bill Nye was doing something new, working outside of the classroom to champion science and space exploration and the fight against climate change, we knew we had to make this documentary”. The collaboration reportedly stems from a chance meeting between Alvarado and Nye during SXSW in Austin, Texas. Now, it appears, we’re about to get an even more in-depth look at the man. According to Variety, a Kickstarter campaign has begun to raise funds for a documentary about the famous science educator.
Bill Nye the Science Guy has spent his career informing the young and old alike on scientific issues ranging from climate change to evolution to the future of spaceflight. A film for the cosmos.
In the past decade, Bill Nye has built a powerful cult following.
When asked why they chose to focus on Nye in particular, they said that they watched the man in school growing up, and consider him an icon for their generation with a “really rich story that nobody really knew about”.

“He impacted us in monumental ways”, Sussberg says in the Kickstarter video. Donate, of course. And giving away your hard-earned cash won’t come without a few benefits: In exchange for funding fans will get everything from a shoutout on Twitter to a thank you in the credits to tickets to a private screening of the final product.
