Five bills related to guns were debated, but one that discusses whether or not to allow children at any age to shoot a gun with parental supervision got lawmakers heated.

Kristin Running-Marguardt a Democrat in the Iowa State House says the proposal is less than ideal,”What this bill does, the bill before us, again, allows for 1-year-olds, 2-year-olds, 3-year-olds, 4-year-olds to operate handguns”.

The bill passed fairly easily through the Iowa House of Representatives and will next be reviewed by the state Senate. Speaking with the Washington Post, Highhfill said, “Allowing people to learn at a young age the respect that a gun commands is one of the most important things you can do”.

Because the ultimate crime would be turning 18 without experience of handling a deadly weapon.

KCCI-TV reports, the measure allows minors to use handguns if they have adult supervision.

She added: “We do not need a militia of toddlers”.

“It’s only risky if you handle it wrong”, Natalie said.

The girl’s father, who was not named by the station, had been lobbying the state legislature to change the law.

Iowa legislators passed legislation that would allow small children to possess firearms. Their father, Nathan Gibson, told The Post that much of Iowa is “farm country” where parents teach their children to shoot pistols and revolvers on open land, and where some children — such as his — enjoy shooting for sport. But it was hard for her and others to convict their landlord under current Iowa law because they couldn’t prove he was aroused by the act, she said.

“We think this is a fairly comprehensive bill that will hit that loophole and really help people protect themselves in situations like this”, said Sen.

Opponents say some parents are not responsible enough to regulate their children’s actions. “Every three hours in this country a child dies from gun violence”.

Current law doesn’t allow anyone younger than 14 years old to handle firearms. She said her organization was particularly against the handgun bill that removes age restrictions.

He said parents should have be able to make decisions for their children. “I believe this is something the government should not be involved with”.
