‘Billboard’ Chart Topper crown awared to Selena Gomez

The “Good For You” singer has been favouring chic, pared back styles recently during her jaunts in Paris and London but that all changed for the InStyle awards last night (26 October) when Selena showcased a far more adventurous side.

This string of number one hits has now earned Gomez special praise-praise that can only bolster the upward trajectory of her career: She’ll be the recipient of the Chart Topper award at Billboard’s annual Women in Music event, which Billboard announced this morning. It’s the actress-singer’s second chart-topping album in a row, following her previous effort Stars Dance in 2013.

Per Billboard, “the award recognizes an artist with major career milestones on Billboard’s music charts” and Gomez definitely has the Midas touch this year. Incredible! We wish Selena many congrats on a succesful release and this fantastic honor. Total worldwide sales of Gomez’s albums stand at almost 6.7 million units and single sales are over 22 million worldwide.

All of this is my roundabout way of saying Gomez seems like an odd choice for the award this year (Iggy Azalea got the honor last year), but I guess it was either her, Florence + The Machine or chart juggernaut Taylor Swift. It is her fastest-ever platinum seller as well as her highest charting single on the Billboard Hot 100. “Good For You” spent three consecutive weeks at No. 1 at Top 40 radio.

When it comes to the Billboard charts, the last two years have been quite an exciting time for Gomez. Let us know and wish her congrats in the comments!

Ironically, it was also on the same day of the launching of her album that Selena made a decision to bare everything about the medical ordeal that she had to survive in the past.
